Adult Swim's Leading Fresh Series of 2025 Gets a Significant Renewal for an Additional Two Seasons.
During the fall season, Adult Swim saw the return of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, later that same month, the network launched a completely new animated series with a distinctly unique feel. Haha, You Clowns emerged as gentle and comforting, reminiscent of a cartoon version of a laid-back talk show. In an era often defined by dark humor, this show's wholesomeness found an audience and turned it into a breakout hit.
A Two-Season Greenlight
On December 18th, Adult Swim made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for a further two seasons. This offers showrunner Joe Cappa a massive runway to further explore the world of the Campbell family. The series focuses on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose defining trait is their deep love for their single father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four main characters.
"My deepest thanks go to the fans of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and helped it grow," said Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for a little longer."
A President's Endorsement
In the same announcement laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and uniquely eerie." He shouted out the fans who embraced the show and supported its peculiarly charming appeal.
"All of you supported this new show, praised it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Different Kind of Comedy
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a gentle counterpart" to more cynical adult animated fare. It offers something deeply soothing about observing this charming family navigate their everyday routines.
In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa shared his desire to help comedy break out of its current layer of irony. He attributed this trend to various cultural shifts.
“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we keep returning to,” noted Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we need to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”
Future Seasons
Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa could potentially be part of that very evolution. Or at the very least, the renewal ensures audiences additional episodes to bask in the gentle humor of the unique Campbell clan.
The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. All episodes is currently streaming on HBO Max.
