Manchester United Poised to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

The forward, with six months remaining on her deal, is known as a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing is viewed as a major signing for the Women’s Super League side.

Departure from Munich has been anticipated after she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top forwards. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.

Reliable Goalscoring to Boost the Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a major boost to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been highly consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven straight seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Steam at Carrington

Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club appear to be building positive momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought additional activity:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's extension, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the American league, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
