The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named 6-7 Spared by Miami-Dade Mayor.

It might not have been at the identical stature as pardoning festive fowl, but the Miami-Dade County mayor had her own ceremonial pardon event this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“The swine has done no wrong. Clemency is justified for her. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with inescapable allusions to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued from the start of the onset of a new presidential term.

“Unless you count eating six or seven apples per day,” she went on. “I hope she experiences a prosperous future without fear.”

This ceremony, which both honors and questions the region’s Hispanic tradition of feasting on pork during the holidays, was established to replicate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.

The swine, provided by a first responder, was named for the current slang trend of young people yelling “six seven” – inspired by a musical verse – often seemingly at random. The craze became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently named “6-7” its annual vocabulary selection.

A Future Secured

Six Seven the pig is now destined to live out its days at a rural sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the event’s official press release.

“The annual pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to kick off the festive period,” said the cafe owner, in a notably cheerful message.

“It represents the character of Miami: joyful, varied, and based in heritage that unite the community. Annually, we are proud to celebrate tradition and kindness in a way unique to Miami.”

Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of croquettes and strong coffee as they celebrated Six Seven’s big moment.
