Toronto Blue Jays Claim Fall Classic Matchup Versus the Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

Springer was instrumental for the Houston Astros winning the championship in 2017.

The Toronto Blue Jays advanced to their first Fall Classic since 1993 by defeating the Mariners in the decisive seventh game of the ALCS.

Trailing three runs to one, the star outfielder delivered a three-run home run in the seventh frame, guiding the only Canadian franchise in MLB to a 4-3 win in the seven-game series. They will now face the defending champions, the team that is the current crown, in the forthcoming World Series.

"It's incredible for this squad, the city, our country," Springer stated, a star of the Houston Astros team that secured the 2017 title. "What an unbelievable moment."

George Springer has now connected for twenty-three playoff homers, placing him third on the list trailing only Ramirez (29) and Altuve (twenty-seven).

"There's probably not another person on planet Earth that I'd prefer in that situation other than George Springer with his playoff prowess," noted manager John Schneider.

Seattle's team, who had led the series two games to none and three games to two, continue to be the sole team never to appear in a Fall Classic.

Manager Dan Wilson said "certainly that it's going to sting" in the wake of his side's defeat at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but applauded their work this season.

"It's a special team. It's a shame that we finished on the wrong side of the series," he remarked.

Toronto's team claimed the World Series on each of their earlier trips in the early 90s, and will welcome the Dodgers in game one on Friday.
